Shock Of All Shocks

Shock of all shocks!, A conclusion has arrived,

What you may ask drove me to this.

I look at this nation and its leaders that drive,

And sadly I find so much amiss.

Squabbling and indecision on the left and the right,

It’s politics at their very worst.

From top to the bottom it’s no easier a fight,

Unable to decide what to do first.

Managing from crisis to crisis is no way to proceed,

As the ball is too easily dropped.

We look to our leaders to stand up and take heed,

Of all that must be started and stopped.

From debt ceiling to healthcare, ebola, ISIS and more,

They fight each other all of the way.

Afraid am I of what may very soon be in store,

For greater horrors may come into play.

We have hearing after hearing and nothing gets done,

They are sound bites for the next campaign.

Fodder for the platform on which they will run,

With lies and aggression to inflame.

I look at the response to ebola with a smile,

This comedy of errors that it is.

The protocols, what protocols all to beguile,

What’s the answer is part of the quiz.

What do we call them–ISIS or Islamic State,

Would somebody make up their mind.

We got into this one perhaps a little too late,

Over time I am sure we will find.

In these two crisis’ congress isn’t without fault,

Ask McCain, he was friend to our foe.

Yelling arm the rebels their advance they will halt,

As always putting on quite a show.

Now congress has called a meeting, the CDC to berate,

For its failure to institute adequate tools.

It was fine leaving West Africa to suffer its fate,

Denying funding like cold hearted fools.

Messages are mixed on all things from above,

Agreeing on nothing is their way.

Failing to compromise when push comes to shove,

I suppose this is how things will stay.

So what is the conclusion from this long winded rant,

More trouble ahead is surely brewing.

Our government is broken and their solutions are scant,

I’m confident they don’t know what they are doing!

Fearmongers Abound

Fearmongers abound

Ebola, ISIS, healthcare

Scaring the masses

Nothing more than politics

Spread by corrupt media

“Fair and Balanced”, ha!

They all have an agenda

Manipulation

Not to report and inform

But to divide and conquer

War

Race wars,

Culture wars,

Gender wars,

Drug wars,

War on freedom,

War on religion,

War on women,

War on drugs,

War on crime,

War on terror,

War, war, war–do you see the pattern!

Still we call ourselves peace-loving,

We call ourselves civilized.

Fighting against each other,

Fighting against our beliefs,

Fighting against enemies of our own design,

Intolerance of one another,

Physical and verbal violence

Waged against our own and the world,

Tell me–what is peace-loving and civilized about this?

We have been brainwashed–

Brainwashed by our government,

Brainwashed by the media,

Brainwashed by our own ignorance!

We continue this spiral into oblivion,

Year after year,

Decade after decade,

Century after century

As so many have done before us.

Perhaps one day we will learn

That constant war tires and diminishes a people

Until eventually they plunge into the abyss of history

–Under the weight of their own arrogance.

With Irony I Look Back On July The Fourth

With irony I look back on July the fourth,

Commemorating separation from the British Crown.

Decrying aristocrats and their gorging worth

And the treatment of their subjects trampling down.

Open your eyes and look at us now,

Governed and judged by aristocrats galore.

Expected to beg, grovel and bow

Just as we did to King George before.

Over two hundred years we’ve learned nothing it’s clear

As again we submit to the court and its king.

Giving away what we should have held dear

For the promise of a golden ring.

This golden ring offered in hopes to divide

The right from the left I am sure

Confusing the masses with promises to provide

Answers to our problems through their cure.

But the cure is poisoned by their quest for greater wealth,

On the backs of those who can least afford.

Tricking them to believe by their dishonest stealth,

That there’s nothing but truth in their word.

Illusion and trickery is the game of the day,

Substance something long ago past.

Diverting ones blame is the partisan way,

Spewing venom as long as it lasts.

If truth does not sell then they coat it in lies,

Said long enough they’re bound to believe.

People are gullible say their political spies,

They’ll swallow whatever we conceive.

Free press is now gone in lieu of partisan hacks,

Towing their hate-filled party lines.

Convincing the audience that they’re watching their backs,

While raking in millions all the time.

With sadness I watch our republic disappear

Under the weight of corruption and greed.

Leaving the powerless amongst us I fear

To scratch and claw for all that they need.

Convinced they’re a burden and a waste of our time

Pretending that they don’t exist.

From their pit of despair alone they’re left to climb,

Should they fail it’s unlikely they’ll be missed.

America has lost the humanity it once had,

Trading it for profit and conceit.

Where helping one another was more than a fad,

It was a facet of what made us complete.

Deception is all part of the elites master plan

Pitting each man against his brother.

Feeding the masses as much fear as they can,

Blaming the cause on another.

Unless we take a stand, the ninety-nine percent,

Against the one percent we’ve allowed to rule us.

Expect nothing more than this we consent,

But to allow the bourgeois to fool us.

This my dear friends is my greatest fret,

With each and every fourth of July.

That under their thumbs, ever more we do get,

Until America shrivels up and dies.

Lick Your Open Wounds (Tanka)

Lick your open wounds

But expect no sympathy

For self-infliction

Brought on by your stone silence

You’ll suffer at your own hands

I Look Upon Such Great Divide

I look upon such great divide

Families fighting through verbal battle

No middle ground, forced to choose sides

Opinions grasped like so much chattel

~

Scarcely since Our Civil War

Have differences raised so much ire

Tell me–what is all the anger for

Fueling tinder to spark the fire

~

Inundated torrent of adapted news

All with clearly chosen leanings

Partisan sides, a burning fuse

Caring not for truth or meaning

~

We drink like cattle at the trough

Hearing what we choose to hear

Everyone else’s minds gone soft

Perpetuating mood of hate and fear

~

One and all looking for someone to blame

Misplaced trust keeps fanning the fire

As rhetoric strives to focus their aim

Their lust for blood on a funeral pyre

~

Once an asset was a public informed

Now we are led astray like sheep

Our minds and senses propaganda stormed

To the point we dream it in our sleep

~

Questions arise, what liar to believe

None of them are worthy of trust

Making their quest to cheat and deceive

We pray their riches turn to rust

~

When oh when will we ever learn

Its up to us to force a change

Instead, watching while we crash and burn

Isn’t our complacency rather strange

I Feel Not So Inspired

I feel not so inspired these days
The drudgery of our existence weighs heavy on me
Our division as a people
Who in times of crisis would unite
No longer seem capable of finding common ground
Certainly those that wish us harm must be in good humor
How foolish we must look
Dressed in our Sunday finest
Preaching…”In God We Trust!”
But trusting in no one but the self
I can do nothing to alter the fact
There is no election to hold
I can scream but no one can hear
Those in guilded monuments are deaf but to themselves
So here I sit with a cup of stale coffee
Choking down the morrning news
Chewing my nails to nubs in nervous anticipation
Only to be swallowed up in disappointment…again
Where are we going
I don’t think anyone knows
Those with the map…they too seem lost
Lost in their maze of arrogance
And we are the ones left in the darkness

Hands Outstretched Across Aisle Hallowed

Hands outstretched across Aisle hallowed

Feigning sincerity and honest concern

Smiles and handshakes, there meaning shallow

Political mutiny from stem to stern

~

Spoils for the taking a populace held hostage

Bends to their whim and their will

With head in the sand like proverbial ostrich

They cater to every tyrant and shill

~

Too blind to notice or choosing not to see

Middle panders fringe left and then right

With no sense of reason what will be will be

Too beat down to put up a fight

~

When self-interest takes over who holds the bag

Its the poor, elderly and non-essential

Defined by the very people who brag

That their views are the most consequential

~

Left with a government who has shuttered their doors

We The People have nowhere to turn

Being held at the mercy of liars and whores

May their pinstripes and wingtips catch fire and burn

~

Honestly looking upon the tragedy we face

On whom does the fault truly lie

Yes, on the rodents that inhabit this place

But also on the uninformed, uninvolved, you and I

~

So when next we sit down and complain of our state

Look inside to what you have done

For without participation, this inevitable fate

Will consume and never be undone

Second Hand Ticks (Tanka)

The second hand ticks

Counting down life in fractions

Like a clock’s movement

A nation oblivious

Never sees its unwinding

Its Hard to Believe

Its hard to believe that it is but a short dozen years

A dozen years since this world changed

Changed a nation and its ideals

The ideals founded on a promise gave way to extremism

An extremism not so unlike that of the terrorist

The terrorist has taken away our freedoms

Our freedom to assemble, our right to privacy

Privacy is a thing of the past taken away by our government

Our government says they must take it to protect us

Protect us from whom, who will protect us from them is the question

Questioning however, is taken as unpatriotic

Unpatriotic! This is our right and our duty as citizens

Citizens who have become nothing but pawns

Pawns to governmental corruption and big business

Business’ who are now treated as citizens by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court who was supposed to keep the executive and legislative in check have let us down

Down are path I fear is collapsing

Collapsing with each step we take down the road

A road, one way, on which their is no return

Oh…to return our moral compass to true

Truly that would be our greatest strength

Strength of character, morals, of humanity that we so long ago lost

Lost to our greed, selfishness and intolerance

Intolerance for ourselves, other nations, other ideals

Ideals that were long deceased before September 11, 2001

September 11, 2001 was just another nail

A nail in a coffin already occupied

Occupied but not inescapable if we would try

Try to resurrect the intentions of our founding fathers

Fathers far wiser than the lot of thieves currently in office

Offices held by both parties

Parties that no longer represent the people

A people that deserve better

Better than to live without freedom, in oppression and under tyranny

.
