Look Into Their Eyes

Look into their eyes,

Can you see the glory in their souls,

Do you feel the oneness…

Their fibers intertwined with yours in this earthly plane?

Journey deep within,

It is there,

Hiding where it has always been…

Your humanity.

I do not believe in your hatred!

How can you look into the eyes of a child

And wish them harm?

How can you hear the cries of a mother for her son

And deny her pain?

How can a line drawn in the sand

Damn a man to certain death in the vicious desert?

Is their blood not red as yours?

Feel the beat of your own heart,

See beyond what your narrow vision shows,

Realize that you are nothing more than them!

Judgement day will reveal your fate by word and deed

Leaving you to find that YOU–

Just may be the least among men.

Angry Thorns Of Blood Red Rose

Angry thorns of blood red rose

What seething lies behind grace?

A gorgeous vessel hollow knows

Deception lives in their space.

Flawless in another’s eyes

Believing what we think we see.

Behind closed doors this angel cries

Wishing to only be free.

Prisons reveal in many forms

Hiding ugliness on the inside.

Keeping contained the tempests storm

‘Til emotions and rage collide.

Then you will see the fragile soul living with torment and fear,

Begging for mercy to fill the hole that now shows so visibly clear.

Exsanguination

Exsanguination,

Bloodletting of our nation

With every debate.

No discussion of issues

Just name calling like children.

Where is the substance?

Criticism solves nothing

Without solutions.

Since time immemorial

We have held this as the truth.

Today words of fools

Supplant our common senses.

Fear now rules our day,

Seen in every passing face;

Breaking our union apart.

What is it they want,

Their finger on the button

Ultimate power?

They are the ones we should fear

If in silence we’d listen.

Round And Round The Story Goes

Round and round the story goes

One that’s as old as time

Where it stops nobody knows

Causing tensions to climb

These 50 odd years since civil rights

Have made so little change

Hatred between black and white

Festers like the mange

Fear of lynching may have passed

But fear exists no less

While walking the street they’re still harassed

No matter how finely dressed

Ask Sandra Bland or Michael Brown

Oh wait they cannot speak

Too many names buried in the ground

The future seems so bleak

Justify and deny all you wish

Your blindness it won’t erase

200 years by chains and switch

Like animals kept in place

Nothing has changed in modern day

Ask Eric, Tamir or Trayvon

It matters not what any of us say

Because either way they’re gone

Repent

Repent!

There is no repentance,

There is no civility only cruelty.

The cud we chew is our own

Regurgitated repeatedly

Until even we believe the vile spew.

This once great nation has become caustic

Poisoning the lifeblood of its citizens.

O’ how embarrassed I am

To be counted amongst you.

What we viewed as progress

Proved to be nothing but a facade.

The world sees us

Just as ugly as our past portrays.

We fool no one with our mask;

Smiling with our hand outstretched in friendship

Whilst clutching a dagger behind our backs.

Then, with great surprise, things turn sour!

We gasp in horror at the cruelty of our adversaries,

Castigating those we exploit.

In denial we consider ourselves blameless

Arrogantly condemning our victims.

Their hatred runs deep and their memories are long.

As we learn not from our mistakes,

Repeated over and over we achieve the same result,

Setting ablaze modern day Rome,

And leaving its citizens to flee in horror.

Can You Hear Their Cries In The Wind

Can you hear their cries in the wind?

Can you smell their desperation?

They fight change with venom,

Covering their adversaries in vile spittel.

Red faced with anger they create crisis

Instilling fear and loathing in the gullible.

Spewing hatred, they seek to divide

Driving a wedge between brothers.

Lurching in their death throes

They claw to remain relevant, but it is futile!

Time is progressing as it always has

While they remain mired in the muck of the past.

Just as the dinosaur was doomed to extinction

So to are they, except they do not yet realize it.

Farewell you carnivorous beasts.

Look Within Your Heart My Wayward Son

Look within your heart my wayward son

To where your ancestry lies

At gun’s molten barrel the war won’t be won

No matter how hard you might try

Where did your fathers and mothers come from

No doubt from a long distant shore

Once arriving in America their journey’d begun

Facing more than their hopes bargained for

Fiery rhetoric from the ignorant right

Does nothing but insight hate filled fear

Isolating newcomers who fled terrors fight

Disillusioning their wish to be here

It’s amazing how little this nation’s progressed

Seeing prejudice and racism rear their heads

Taking one step forward then two we regress

Giving in to the hate mongers dread

Perhaps it is time we holster our guns

And temper our fork tongued speech

Instead doing what America should have done

Practicing exactly what we preach

Crowds of xenophobes

Gather to feast on his bile

Hail to The Donald

The latest right-wing tyrant

Spewing hate to the masses

Seeing the Difference

Seeing the difference

In every face of color

White supremacy

Since this country’s  inception

They have been looked down upon

Even in this day

Absolutely nothing’s changed

Life of denial

How Can I Complain

How can I complain,

With food, shelter and clothing

A place to call home.

I am not ravaged by war,

Despised by much of the world.

This joyous season

Take the time to remember…

We are truly blessed.
