Anger of a man
Lashing out at the world,
Perhaps it’s sadness.
He’s being eaten from inside
And left for dead by mankind.
.
Hastily judging
Simple feeds the savage beast.
Leaving him a shell,
Unrecognizable to
Friends and family alike.
.
Such a waste is this
When each life is so precious
To cast it aside.
Leaving him alone to die
Amongst the concrete and cold.

Fate–do you believe
Or is this just our free will
Guiding destiny

Drift amongst the stars
Each one a spark of heaven
In the form of man

Our past watches modernity from the grave.
Sprawling fields of monument and headstone
Honor these souls that ventured on before us.
What must they think of this world as they look on,
Our never ending roadways,
Towering buildings of glass and steel,
Automobiles supplanting horse and carriage,
Our lack of respect for water, air and life,
Politics more polarizing than any in history,
Unquenchable greed marring its noble past?
Perhaps they are relieved to be in a better place,
Sleeping peacefully under a blanket of white,
Winter’s cold and man’s ignorance
No longer gnawing at their weary bones.
As we pass by should we not think of them,
Consider how far we have traveled,
How far behind we have fallen,
What we have lost,
What we have surrendered in frustration.
If we are to regain our souls,
Our greatness and our compassion,
Reversing this slide into oblivion,
These fields likely hold the key
Under their peaceful blanket of white.

I am not a wise man,
Questions–I have so many,
A seeker am I.
No–this is not a complaint.
My path is profoundly worn,
Worn by ancestors
All belonging to my tribe,
My brother humans.
Neither the first nor the last;
Others will travel this road
Leaving blood and sweat
As markers of their journey…
Of this I am sure.
I take solace in this fact
That I’ve not ventured alone.

The reign of mankind
Trustees of all living things
Seems like a mistake
When we won’t protect our own
How can we be entrusted

Could I be my own worst enemy,
Yearning for perfection in this world and knowing it can never be?
Nothing can satisfy me as I watch the cruelty of man,
Inflicting pain and suffering on each other,
Crimes–inexcusable by any of God’s sacred texts.
Irreverent and blasphemous fools are these
Scandalous in their deep seated hatred
Maring the kindness and love of the doctrines they so staunchly claim to defend.

“Believe as you will”, you say,
“I can respect that”, you say with a smile.
In your heart of hearts you are only tolerating,
You know they are wrong,
They don’t believe as you do so they must be wrong.
It matters not that we share this same walk together,
They have the same pains,
They have the same hopes,
They have the same dreams,
They fear,
They mourn loss,
They live and die just as you do,
But yet you self-righteously sit in judgement.
Is that what your God wants,
Is that what my God wants,
I seriously doubt it.
If you wish to be judge and jury,
Look no further than the heathen within
And you will find plenty of crimes to punish.

We are one world
Though we seek ways to divide
Is peace so painful
