It Occurred To Me Today

It occurred to me today–

Prompted by a voice,

Not in my head,

No, it came from a voice on the radio.

I’ve heard this voice a hundred times,

Heard the same questions,

Heard the same answer,

But today–

Today of all days I actually listened.

What is life?

What is living?

That’s when the light finally turned on.

It’s the glorious journey of learning how to die.

We do it daily,

We do it with every breath.

We look to our religions,

Our Gods, our souls for the answer.

Why?

In the desire to leave this world in peace

With dignity,

With the hope for something after,

Something more than this temporary existence.

And why shouldn’t we?

Are we not returning to our beginning,

To the earth,

To the air,

To the heavens,

As we have been blessed to do.

Galvanizing Hate

Galvanizing hate!

Bombs serve as propaganda

Scrolled in human blood.

Tears can’t wash away the pain

As the body count rises.

What is to be gained,

There cannot be a victor

Amongst this madness?

Only memories of death

Can survive in these ruins.

Animosity!

The progeny of warfare,

Perpetuated.

It is the subjugator–

Trapping us in violence.

Boom

Boom!

Explosions foretell impending doom.

Shrapnel tears, litter, debris,

Screams of those one cannot see.

Missiles launched behind human shields,

Zionists and zealots refuse to yield.

Suffering little as the innocent die,

Denying they’re complicit, a terrible lie.

Which side is right, which side is wrong,

Difficult to tell they’ve hated so long.

Whether Gaza, Israel, Russia, Ukraine,

War is still war just with different names.

Fighting for ethnicity, Allah or God,

They’re “holier than thou” is just a facade.

Violence and death under whatever name,

Can’t be justified no matter what the claim.

Which leads me to wonder whether peace is desired,

With every bomb dropped and each rocket fired.

These wars have carried on for eons ‘til today,

I wonder if they really know any other way.

While their innocent suffer and hatred is bred,

I doubt they will stop until all sides are dead.

So Much Seems Misguided In This World

So much seems misguided in this world

Though perhaps it is me that is misguided, I do not know.

Is it wrong to expect more from us as a people,

To give with an open heart,

To love without consideration of race, creed or color?

Touting the sacredness of our religions,

Our freedom to worship as we please,

We are stifled,

Narrow of mind,

Driven to discriminate in the name of our God.

We preach against other free peoples,

Demanding their conformity to our world view,

Threatening hellish consequences for disobedience.

This is not freedom–

Shackled by our religions, it is we are enslaved!

Find one among us that is not simply trying to survive,

Doing the best they can in these uncertain times.

Does your Holier-Than-Thou attitude raise you above them?

Does belittling your brothers and sisters bring you closer to God?

Does freedom and equality apply to only those with whom you are in consensus?

It does not you hypocrites;

Your religion is distorted and not of God!

You are not ordained to be judge and jury

Carrying out sentence on your brethren!

Take heed of your own shortcomings,

As I am certain there are many

And this world shall be a better place.

At This Holy Time (Tanka)

At this Holy time

Many go through the motions

For eggs and candy

A bizarre celebration

Forgetting His death and rise

Do You Believe In Coincidence

Do you believe in coincidence,

Perhaps in luck

Or do you believe in something from above?

A guardian angel watching unseen,

Keeping an eye on where you go

Leading you on from where you’ve been.

Is this so impossible

In a “Wonderful Life” kind of way?

There are things we don’t know

Since the beginning of time until today.

As strange as it may seem I believe they are real,

This doesn’t need confirmed with the five senses

I can’t explain it, it’s something I feel.

Maybe this is what eternity has defined as trust,

I really don’t know, I can’t be sure.

All I know is that I have to, surely I must,

No other explanation could be the cure.

There are things not of this world that we sense every day,

Defying the best of logic and human science.

Nothing more needs said, nothing more I can say,

In the divine we must put our faith and reliance.

Two Simple Words

Two simple words,

Three little letters,

Commanded by God eons ago.

Spoken with respect or not spoken at all.

Blasphemous if taken personally.

Held sacred in the Torah as in the Old Testament.

Otherworldly–

Holy–

Instilling fear in the faithful–

But why?

Are we not made of God,

In the image of God,

Each a Creator in our own right?

As written in first John,

“He who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

So why are we so afraid?

If I am filled with love… am I not love?

And therefore,

If I am love am I not…

I Am?

Fundamental Good (Tanka)

Fundamental good

At the heart of religion

Bastardized by man

For their selfish purposes

All to denigrate others

Voracity for Change

In the darkened halls etched with golden finery,

Do you admit the secrets they hold,

Shrouded in the shrouds of your jeweled cassocks?

.

For how many centuries has this debauchery been veiled?

How many unchaste Satans lay in your webbed catacombs,

Venerated by the ignorant and blind?

.

This is not an indictment of the faithful, the many tended sheep in your flock,

They are the innocent men and women…and child victims,

Venerated as martyrs before the universal mother.

.

Have you forgotten your roots, roots steeped in love and in service?

Not service to yourselves for its benefit, but service to the thirsty progeny

Who you’ve nourished with scandal and dust.

.

Knowingly, the devils amongst you receive shelter…You are evil as they!

You can not hide your sins from God Almighty, you immoral men!

Utter hypocrisy flows through your narrowed veins as sacramental wine.

Your restitution rings hollow…what of the innocence you’ve so ravaged?

Your treasures buy not your redemption– for the trustful can ne’er be whole again.

You vipers!…The solemnity of your vows lay thrashed by the Reaper.

.

Heads bowed on bended knee– tears for transformation fall with no retort.

They ask not for scriptural emendation, only boundness before the Lord.

In consumptive fashion, pomp preempts substance from this Cardinal clan.

.

What mold anewed will you lay before the disconsolate altar of the faithful?

Would it not be fair to portend that there will be nothing of substance to behold?

Only time will avow your voracity for change.

Who Is He

Who is he?

That is if he is a he and not a she?

He is whomever we need him to be.

He is all powerful to those that feel powerless.

He is all loving to those whose hearts are broken.

He is all forgiving to those who have gone astray.

He is all understanding to those who are in turmoil.

He is all comforting to those who have been wronged.

He is all knowing, all seeing, all hearing..

He is the reason for the good in this world.

He is the reason for the evil in this world.

He creates.

He destroys.

He punishes.

He saves.

We are his likeness.

We are him and he is us.

We can be powerful to help those feeling powerless.

We can be loving to those with hearts that are broken.

We can be forgiving to those who have gone astray.

We can be understanding to those who are in turmoil.

We can be comforting to those who have been wronged.

We can know, can see, can hear.

We can do good in this world.

We can do evil in this world.

We create.

We destroy.

We punish.

We save.

We look outside instead of looking inside.

Perhaps we had the answers all along,

But were too blind to see.

Perhaps…
