Are They Asking Too Much

Parents bleed failure

Shattered by their children’s cries

Hungry and dirty

Tortured by their poverty

They look above for relief

But prayers are ignored

They don’t qualify for aid

How poor must you be

In this, the greatest nation

Before they are helped

Ransom My Heart – A Tanka

I gifted my heart

So many years ago now

Like priceless treasure

Cherished and highly prized

Then held for ransom

Strength to Overcome

Sadness, quiet, eerie blows,

On garnished leaves to where who knows,

A fall from grace in painful throes,

To die in forlorn anonymity.

~

Acrid tears fall on arid plain,

O’er rock and berm toward sea of flame,

Where passion burns lone side disdains,

A heart in mangled perpetuity.

~

Asphyxiated soul, torrid and weak,

Heaves vital breath for redolence to seek,

Speechless and winded, powerless to speak,

In silence thy sentience doth flicker.

~

These stolid misfortunes no more shall they hinder,

Gathered in bushel– cloaked as barren split tinder,

Leaving the past a hoard of smoldering cinders,

With courage, volition sustains.

Gone

The light fails me,

I open my eyes,

Hoping to see more clearly,

But there is no focus.

~

Nothing is as is should be,

My head hurts in the painful quiet,

There is no comfort,

In this cold empty bed.

~

I drove me to this madness,

And you, away in disgust,

I didn’t try to stop you,

Stubbornly shunning you.

~

Your tears did not deter,

I swore you’d be back,

How could you live without me,

After all these years.

~

But emptiness speaks volumes,

Shouting your answer,

“I’m gone!”

On my once deaf ears.

Don’t regret the past

Focus on what lies ahead

You are it’s master

Knees pulled to her chest

A destitute mother weeps

For her unborn child

A Bid Farewell

Blasphemous lies spewed

Like daggers thrust, filleting us

Cowardice revealed as your forte’

I knew you not as well as I thought

Your blackened heart splayed

Expelling hatred, thick and vile

Engulfing what once I treasured

Swallowing it whole

With nary a trace to be had

Why? Is the question

For I know not what baited this provocation

Friendship at length counts for naught

Preferring to wrench away

Every miniscule crumb of what bound us

With sorrow I begged explanation

But none was offered

Receiving only silence in response

With sadness I must bid adieu

Wishing you only the best

I harbor no ill will

Hoping one day for reconciliation

Until then my friend

Farewell

Solemn vow, I do’s

Said during wedding day bliss

Oft lost over time

Suffocation – A Tanka

Your blanket of lies

Pulled tightly around my head

Suffocating trust

Killing, what I thought we shared

Sun, moon and the air we breathe

The Empty Bed – Tanka

I blink and you’re gone

Half our bed is crisp and cold

Empty like my heart

Broken by my one true love

Destined to wander alone
