Our Collective Soul

Our collective soul

Lies buried in the rubble

Of hate, greed and lies.

One day we will rise from ash

Like the fiery Phoenix.

Enlightened, wiser,

Perhaps we will see we’re one,

Made of flesh and bone.

How sad that we must suffer

Before we open our eyes.

Community

Comradery of souls

Offered without pretense;

More could not be asked for

Making the cause all the more special.

Unity of purpose unites

Nailing hearts and minds to a common cross,

Instilling strength to carry on the fight.

Though hardship and hatred will try to stifle,

Yearning for understanding and equality can never be silenced.

A Sense Of Purpose

As sense of purpose

Isn’t that what we all want

It seems so simple

Still we ignore what we know

Because malice is easier

His Dizzying Array Of Nonsense

His dizzying array of nonsense boggles the mind

While apologists stutter excuses.

The dark underbelly of society cheers

Like rabid dogs dancing insanely in the streets.

Violence abounds though he denies its existence

Even while celluloid, coated in pepper spray stifles their lies.

He misspoke, He was taken out of context

Are the excuses of today as women are marched to prison.

Discussions of personal responsibility

Do not apply to this “Teflon Don”.

He speaks his ugly mind

Letting consequences fall where they may.

He didn’t start it, the other guy did

Showing that even spouses aren’t safe.

A schoolyard bully in a custom tailored suit

Wants to rule your roost,

And you are willing to blindly let him.

It matters not whether he is of substance,

It only matters that he speaks exactly what you think.

Killing with kindness

Not the preference of some

Bombs are more deadly

Why promote diplomacy

When weapons of war exist

Symbol Of Greatness

Symbol of greatness

Tarnished by greed and hatred.

A once proud people

Sinks deeper into ruin

While wearing a clueless stare.

They would be appalled

If only they were conscious,

But alas they aren’t

Choosing instead to live lies

Propagandized by tyrants.

Fascists Among Us

Fascists among us

In the likes of Donald Trump

And his followers

A disgrace to humankind

Yet they live in denial

Gullibility

Prevailing in this nation…

In this century

Learning nothing in decades

We are destined to repeat

Showing no regret

Is what is most troubling

In this modern day

Racism and hatred live

In their violence and threats

Have we learned nothing

Showing little tolerance

What have we become

But laughing stocks of the world

And fodder for terrorists

Look Into Their Eyes

Look into their eyes,

Can you see the glory in their souls,

Do you feel the oneness…

Their fibers intertwined with yours in this earthly plane?

Journey deep within,

It is there,

Hiding where it has always been…

Your humanity.

I do not believe in your hatred!

How can you look into the eyes of a child

And wish them harm?

How can you hear the cries of a mother for her son

And deny her pain?

How can a line drawn in the sand

Damn a man to certain death in the vicious desert?

Is their blood not red as yours?

Feel the beat of your own heart,

See beyond what your narrow vision shows,

Realize that you are nothing more than them!

Judgement day will reveal your fate by word and deed

Leaving you to find that YOU–

Just may be the least among men.

Round And Round The Story Goes

Round and round the story goes

One that’s as old as time

Where it stops nobody knows

Causing tensions to climb

These 50 odd years since civil rights

Have made so little change

Hatred between black and white

Festers like the mange

Fear of lynching may have passed

But fear exists no less

While walking the street they’re still harassed

No matter how finely dressed

Ask Sandra Bland or Michael Brown

Oh wait they cannot speak

Too many names buried in the ground

The future seems so bleak

Justify and deny all you wish

Your blindness it won’t erase

200 years by chains and switch

Like animals kept in place

Nothing has changed in modern day

Ask Eric, Tamir or Trayvon

It matters not what any of us say

Because either way they’re gone

Repent

Repent!

There is no repentance,

There is no civility only cruelty.

The cud we chew is our own

Regurgitated repeatedly

Until even we believe the vile spew.

This once great nation has become caustic

Poisoning the lifeblood of its citizens.

O’ how embarrassed I am

To be counted amongst you.

What we viewed as progress

Proved to be nothing but a facade.

The world sees us

Just as ugly as our past portrays.

We fool no one with our mask;

Smiling with our hand outstretched in friendship

Whilst clutching a dagger behind our backs.

Then, with great surprise, things turn sour!

We gasp in horror at the cruelty of our adversaries,

Castigating those we exploit.

In denial we consider ourselves blameless

Arrogantly condemning our victims.

Their hatred runs deep and their memories are long.

As we learn not from our mistakes,

Repeated over and over we achieve the same result,

Setting ablaze modern day Rome,

And leaving its citizens to flee in horror.
